Monday morn....off to have a look around the little village!
Little old Queenslander...
Few coconuts dropped, good luck if you weren't underneath when they fell!! You often find them growing the start of a palm with roots forming at the bottom!
They're passionate!!! No need to tell the Blues who won!!!!!! A flogging!
Blues or Maroons,edging their bets!!!!!!
Live guinea fowl at someone's door........
Just alongside access to beach on someone's property, perfect spot!!!
Onto the beach...tide was out 100 meters..... Bit muddy ,not a typical sandy beach!!
Patiently waiting...... For his mistress,no lead......wondering when our Moose dog will do this !!!!?????
Wednesday 8th July...... Of to have a look at the two coal mining terminals at Hay Point 30 kms south of Mackay.
Train terminal.....where the trains are marshalled before heading to Hay Point Coal and Dalrymple Bay Coal, both at Hay Point.
Trains carry 10,000 tonne,are2 km long with 100 wagons and 4-5 Locomotives!
On entering that public viewing area ,you are 'greeted' with this sign!!!!!
This is the largest in the Southern Hemisphere exporting 130 m/tonne per annum, one port at 45 ,the other 85!
18 ships are at anchor awaiting loading and the largest vessels carry 230,000 tonne !
Bit cooler today, overcast with rain expected tomorrow and Friday!
Well we've had a few showers of rain the last few day!
Saturday 11th July....our last day at Armstrong Beach....off to Cape Palmerston tomorrow for a couple of nights,South about 60 kms.. Run along the beach this morning...not sure what these ducks are called, always in pairs...one guy said they were called belted ducks!!?
Also came across this ugly sucker on the beach!
Cape Palmerston.....120 kms south of Mackay turn off the Bruce Hwy at Ilibilie.....
Stopped of at Koumala for a cup of coffee ,great old pub! The notice board at the general store was full of activities coming up,they must have a great community, surrounded by sugar cane and beef farming!
Caravan park is set on 62 acres, owner has spent over 2 1/2 million dollars on it and it's a credit to him!! It fronts onto the beach and at the back is the Cape Palmerston national park.
The knob in the back ground is Funnel Hill!
This is the track down to the beach...apparently fireflies come out at night......amongst other things!!!!!
The end of the sunset last night ......
Tuesday 14th July.....on the road to Rockhampton then onto Calliope River, free camp for overnight stop..
Buck reckons there would be at least 100 vans, great spot but only one toilet block working!! You are only meant to stay for a maximum of 3 days but some people have their annexes up! Poor facilities are in overload! We have noticed that free camps are full everywhere we've been! On the way to Bargara and the beach tomorrow!
